Terrier blown up by yobs

SICK yobs blew a helpless Yorkshire Terrier to bits after tying a firework to it — then took photos on their phones.

The dead animal’s insides were scattered across a road by the force of the blast.

The owners of 11-year-old Emmie last night branded the killers “sick”.

Maureen and Keith Barrington, both 67, said Emmie had bolted from their garden after being scared by fireworks.

Maureen said: “They are sick in the head. They can’t be right because who would want to do that?

“How can they make her suffer and film her and laugh?”


Keith added: “When I found her, my heart sank.

“She had been blown to bits and covered in blood but I knew straight away it was her because of her red collar. We think she ran out into the road and was hit by a car. Then these lads stopped as she lay in the road and blew her up and were taking photographs of her.”

The devastated couple buried Emmie in their garden with her favourite toy in Linthwaite, West Yorks.

Maureen added: “She was lovely and beautiful, and so tiny.

“I hope she was run over and dead before they got to her and did not die that way because I can’t bear the thought of her going through that.

“But whether she was alive or dead, it was an absolutely disgusting thing to do. It is terrible to dismember her body like that.”

A witness took the number plate of the thugs’ car and police plan to prosecute for criminal damage.

The Sun is campaigning with the RSPCA to stamp out animal cruelty.

Keith added: “My wife is just getting over cancer and I’ve had a triple heart bypass — but Emmie was something to live for.”
